Seniors Men’s Medal No. 2B – Competition Results

Thursday 4th June 2026

Division 1 – Schofield in Command

A hearty round of applause (and possibly a small bow) to Steve C. Schofield, who marched to victory with a tidy nett 70. Steve went out in 40 and came back in 44, sprinkling in two birdies and five pars — the sort of form that makes the rest of us wonder whether he’s secretly been practising.

He finished three shots clear of Marcus Beale, who returned a nett 73 and a very respectable back nine of 37, which he will no doubt mention casually in the clubhouse for the next fortnight.

Drew Armstrong also posted a nett 73, but his back nine of 39 wasn’t quite enough to sneak past Marcus. Still, a fine effort and a reminder that Division 1 remains a dangerous place for the faint‑hearted.

Division 2 – D’Arcy by a Whisker

Over in Division 2, Steve D’Arcy claimed the honours with a nett 72, going out in 43 and back in 49, including three pars and at least one moment where he wondered why he ever took up the game.

He edged out Terry Unwin by a single shot — Terry returning a nett 73 with a sharp back nine of 36, which suggests he either found his rhythm or finally located the middle of the clubface.

Peterl Bull also carded a nett 73, but his back nine of 39 nudged him into third place. Rumours that he blamed the greens, the wind, and the alignment of Jupiter remain unconfirmed.

Below are the full results for both divisions:

Jack Chettle Trophy

Thursday 15th May 2026

TA turnout of 41 players contested this year’s Jack Chettle Trophy, with 41 players taking to the course in pursuit of one of our most cherished Honours Board titles. The scoring was tight, the banter was lively, and the competition sheet looked as though it had survived a small storm of arithmetic by the time the last card was signed. The event produced a tight finish, with several players separated only by countback.

🏆 Keith Evans – 38 points Winner of the Jack Chettle Trophy

A small mystery surrounded the presentation this year— the trophy had mysteriously vanished, somewhere between the clubhouse and the committee cupboard. Whether it had wandered off, gone into hiding, or simply decided it deserved a sabbatical is unclear. But thanks to the magic of AI, the photo below now shows the moment exactly as it should have happened — winner Keith Evans being presented with the trophy by Seniors Captain Phil Harrison, silverware restored and dignity preserved.

Card Draw

A hearty congratulations (and perhaps a raised eyebrow) to Peter Milburn, who scooped the five‑pound card draw. Proof, once again, that you don’t need to trouble the leaderboard to walk away with the day’s most satisfying return.

All winnings will be credited to your bar card in due course.

Seniors Medal No. 2 – Competition Report

With many of the regulars away representing the section in the match against Birstall, the second Seniors Medal of the season was a more intimate affair, with 22 players taking to the course. With numbers reduced, the field was combined into one division, but the competition remained as keen as ever.

It was Stu Newland who rose above the pack, returning an excellent nett 67 (73–6) to claim top spot and the £17 first prize. A tidy round, steady throughout, and fully deserving of the win.

In second place, Steve Wilson posted a solid nett 69 (81–12), earning £15 and keeping the pressure on the leader. Just behind him came Bill Litchfield, whose nett 72 (92–20) secured third place and £13.

Rounding out the prize winners was L.ance Rosie, carding a nett 73 (80–7) to take fourth place and £11.

The £5 card draw went to John Hopwood, who will no doubt claim it was all down to skill rather than luck.

Because so many players were away on match duty, an additional Medal No. 2B has been added to the fixture list for Tuesday 4th June, subject to availability—giving everyone a fair crack at the early‑season medals.

A smaller field, but still a competitive and enjoyable morning’s golf, with some excellent scoring at the top of the leaderboard.

All winnings will be credited to your bar card in due course.
