Many of us were pleased to see that the three Egyptian Geese have returned to our course and can be seen on the 1st, 2nd and 4th fairways. These exotic birds are native to the Sahara and were considered sacred by the ancient Egyptians. They were originally introduced into the UK in the late 17th century.
Despite its name they are not a goose but a duck and are related to the Shelduck. Its difficult to tell the males and females apart, though the females are a little smaller. Their preferred nesting sites are often holes in trees.
